Monique Herbert is this week’s Flor Bella Beauty. In this hair feature, she shared with us her daily regimen as well as fabulous photos revealing her hair in all its glory. Read on and take a few notes on how Monique maintains and styles her natural tresses.

Name and where are you from?

Hi, my name is Monique aka @ItsMeItsMo, and I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana.

When Did you go Natural?

I went natural a long, long, long time ago, back when Fotki was the thing, lol. Honestly, I stopped counting, but it’s been over 8 years.

Did you transition or did you big chop?

I was already rocking a Halle Berry inspired cut, so the big chop was easy for me.  I started with a TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro).

What prompted you to go natural?

Honestly, I was interested in seeing my curl pattern. I wanted to have big curly hair!

What is your favorite thing about being natural?

The versatility…the ability to go from straight to curly.  Also, I love the fact that every head of natural hair is different, too!  It makes me feel unique.

What is your least favorite thing about being natural?

Did you receive any criticism regarding going natural?

No criticism from anyone that mattered!  Again, it was an easy transition for me and others, because I was already rocking a short hair style.

Did you consider your spouse when you made the decision to go natural?

I did!  I ran it by him, and he was down for the transition.

How does your spouse feel about your hair?

He absolutely loves it! The bigger the better.

What is your nighttime routine?

The pineapple has become my best friend.  Sometimes, I will re-moisturize with a water-based conditioner/oil mix, but that’s only when my hair needs it.

Who are your favorite bloggers/vloggers?

Currently,  I’m crushing on @MsVaughnTV,  @EtcBlogMag, @Donedo,  @StrawberriCurls,  @Hey_Curlie, @NaturallyKenvi, and @Nae2Curly.

What is your regimen?

I cleanse my hair once a week with either a co-wash or shampoo.  After washing, I’ll apply a rinse out conditioner, and follow that up with a deep treatment.  If I have time, I’ll apply heat while deep conditioning and rinse.  Finally,  it’s time to style.

What are your favorite products?

Hello Hydration, Shea Moisture Shampoo (any), Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Conditioner, Creme of Nature’s 7 in 1 Leave-In Spray, and Rootspiration Oil Blend.

What is your go to style?

The braidout is the one thing I’ve mastered in these eight plus years.

Who is your celebrity hair crush?

Tracee Ellis Ross, of course.

Who is your regular hair crush?

Currently,  Romance of @hey_curlie.

Where can you be found on social media?

Instagram @itsmeitsmo and @neworleansnaturalhairexpo.

Any big plans for 2015?

I am currently planning the New Orleans Natural Hair Expo (#NONHE). It’s scheduled to take place July 4 weekend.  You can find more information at
