Just by looking at her photos, you can tell that LaShon Renee understands the natural hair journey. LaShon shares tips and resources about natural hair and beauty on her blog, fortheloveofcurls.com, and was gracious enough to chat with us today, too. Learn about how easy it was for her to transition from permed to natural hair and her number one pet peeve of having big, curly hair. Enjoy this week’s Flor Bella Hair Feature, and take notes if you dare.

Name and where you’re from?

Hi, I’m LaShon Renee from Los Angeles, CA.

When did you go natural?

I started transitioning in 2005.

What prompted you to go natural?

I was motivated by seeing the documentary “Good Hair”. Seeing the chemical that is in relaxers deteriorate a Coke can was enough for me.

What is your favorite thing about being natural?

My favorite thing is versatility. I never had this much fun with my hair when I was relaxed.

What is your least favorite thing about being natural?

The bane of my existence is detangling, and it seems that the longer my hair gets the worse it gets. Ugh!

Did you receive any criticism about going natural?

No, thankfully my transition went smoothly!

What is your night time routine?

My night time routine consists of me laying my head on my satin pillowcase! Lol.

What advice would you give to the newly natural?

To take one day at a time and to realize that it is a journey, so you will have good and bad days.

Did your spouse have any say in your decision to go natural?

My husband is pretty laid back, so he didn’t have much to say at the time, but now he says he prefers my hair natural versus straight.

Who are your favorite bloggers/vloggers?

My favorite hair blogs are The Mane Objective and Just Grow Already. My favorite YouTubers are Naptural85 and CharyJay.

What is your regimen?

I wash and deep condition weekly, along with co-washing midweek. I try to clarify once a month and do protein treatments bi-weekly.

What are your favorite products?

I am a true product junkie, so I have many favorites, but I prefer products that are more natural because I believe quality makes a difference. Some of my favorite brands are Shea Moisture, Jane Carter, Deva Curl and As I Am.

What is you go to hairstyle?

My go to style is a wash ‘n go!

Who is your celebrity hair crush?

I admire Tracee Ellis Ross for being very vocal about the importance of accepting the beauty of your own natural hair. Also, Viola Davis for taking off her wig and walking the red carpet showing off the beauty of her natural hair.

Who is your regular hair crush?

I love the curls of Naptural85 and Mahogany Curls.

Where can you be found on social media?

My natural hair blog is www.fortheloveofcurls.com. Facebook: fortheloveofcurls / Instagram: 4theloveofcurls / Twitter: 4theloveofcurls / Pinterest: 4theloveofcurls.

Any big plans for 2015?

My hair goals for 2015 are to grow my hair waist length and to retain a good moisture balance in my hair. I didn’t stick to a good routine in 2014 so my hair tended to be very dry. I’m also looking to grow my blog audience and social media channels.
