Naturally Glam’s own Jonna Scott-Blakes stopped by & shared with us what it takes for her natural hair to remain healthy & beautiful. She also left sound advice for newly naturals. Learn what her go-to products are, the real reason she returned natural and more about her popular, ever-growing naturally glam brand in our latest hair feature.

Name and where are you from?

I’m Jonna and I’m from Newport News, VA.

When did you go natural?

December 2008.

Did you transition or did you big chop?

[I] transitioned for 5 months, then big chopped.

What prompted you to go natural?

I was starting a healthier lifestyle, turning 30, and curious about what my natural hair would look like.

What is your favorite thing about being natural?

The versatility of my hair and it’s uniqueness.

What is your least favorite thing about being natural?

The variance of curl patterns on one side of my head. I wish it was all uniform. Sometimes it makes styling a challenge.

Did you experience any negativity regarding your decision to go natural?

I did, and majority of those people are now also natural. Go figure :). With men, once they saw length, they were on board.

What is your nighttime routine?

I pineapple with a satin scarf and sleep on a satin pillowcase. Or just sleep on a satin pillowcase.

What advice can you give to anyone considering going natural?

Do it because you want to embrace YOUR natural hair. Go in with the idea of learning about YOUR natural hair and how best to care for it.

Who are your favorite Bloggers/vloggers?

I have so many! askpRoy, MsVaughnTV, Yolanda Renee, CharyJay, Jenell Stewart, NaturallyCreole, TiffanyNicholsDesign, Jouelzy, Brosiaa, MahoganyCurls…I could go on and on.

What is your regimen?

I cleanse, deep condition, detangle and style my hair weekly, and re-twist as needed. I also get my ends trimmed by a stylist whenever the seasons change. That’s pretty much it.

What are your favorite products?

As a blogger, I try so many that I love. Some of my favorites: everything EDEN BodyWorks has, Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia, OBIA Curl Moisturizing Cream, Curls Curl Souffle, Koils by Nature Deep Conditioner. I always feel bad naming products because I’m sure I’m forgetting something!
