Hair Feature — Lovette Garcia
New Jersey native naturalista Lovette Garcia is this weeks beauty. In her feature, she talks her self esteem, her favorite hair care products and just how she keeps her hair looking so luscious. Let’s GO.
What is your name and where are you from? Lovette Garcia and im from Newark NJ
When did you go Natural? Did you transition or did you big chop? June “11” was my last relaxer and I transitioned.
What prompted you to go natural? One of my cousins actually inspired me to go natural and explore the uncharted terrain that I never quite really understood. I was curious to see what I was hiding all these years behind relaxers, flat irons and blowdryers. I always knew my hair was thick but for once, I wanted to give my curls a fighting chance and not run from my hair like I did all my life.
What is your favorite thing about being natural? My favorite thing about being natural would probably be the versatility. My hair can take on many shapes and I love the fact that I don’t have to run for cover when it rains (lol) water is my hair’s best friend now!
What is your least favorite thing about being natural? The wash days! It literally can take up to at least 4 to 5 hours to do my hair. Takes up too much time
Did you receive any criticism regarding going natural? No not at all!
What is your routine? (To include nighttime regimen) Co-wash once a week plus deep condition and twist my hair. I sleep with a satin bonnet and moisturize every other day
Has your journey inspired your friends or family to go natural? If so, How? Indeed it has! I have a few friends that have gotten curious about their own hair. One friend has taken heat out of her regimen and she is currently learning how to do her hair without the manipulation of heating tools.

How has being natural shaped your self-esteem? Its amazing how much more self confident i am now that i am the only person handling my strands now. At first when I started wearing my hair curly it didnt look how I really wanted to look and it was days where I just wanted to run to the doobie shop but I stuck it out and so happy I did because nourishing my hair with the right products and much patience only made my hair become better and better. I feel free because i have finally accepted how the hair on my head grows out of my scalp. And it personally makes me feel good to know that I am comfortable with looking how god intended me to look. I look like me and im finally in love with it.
How do you respond when strangers ask to touch your hair? I havent had any encounters of strangers wanting to touch my hair. i often get compliments about my hair though.
Knowing what you know now, is there anything about being natural that you wished you’d know before you started your journey? I wish someone wouldve told me about coconut oil but i always complained of dry hair and coconut oil has served me well since with super soft hair!
Who are your favorite Bloggers/vloggers? I love Moknowshair, Naptural85 and Yolanda Renee!
What are your favorite products? Curls creme brule whipped curl cream ,TGIN’s honey miracle mask, Coconut oil and giovanni’s direct leave in!
Your go to hair style is____? A twistout
